Our Installation Process

The first step in the roof installation is typically removing the existing roofing materials, which is generally only appropriate in cases of roof replacement. Depending on the type of roof installed, there may also be an additional step of installing a waterproof membrane beneath the roof deck. Once these layers are removed, we check for signs of rot or deterioration in the roof deck before applying new roofing materials.

Next comes laying down roofing felt paper to act as a barrier between the roof deck and shingles. This prevents water from seeping into vulnerable spots around nails or holes in the roof deck. The felt paper will be laid in overlapping strips that extend beyond each side of the roof by at least six inches.

Once this protective layer has been established, shingle installation takes place. Shingles are typically fastened with nails along their edges every 6-12 inches. The number and spacing will depend on local building codes and the shingle manufacturer’s recommendation for the product being used. In addition to securing shingles along their edges, it is also important to apply sealant under shingle tabs to prevent water from seeping through unsealed joints, which can lead to leaks or other structural damage over time.

In addition to installing the shingles themselves, flashing must also be applied around any protrusions such as vents or chimneys where water could easily enter vulnerable spots otherwise unprotected by shingles. Flashing usually consists of metal sheets cut in various shapes according to their intended purpose; it should then be securely nailed in place after sealant has been applied around its edges so it remains sealed against moisture infiltration.

Finally comes the cleanup of any debris created during installation; once this has been completed, your new shingle roof will be ready for many years of reliable protection against weather elements!

The Benefits of Shingle Roofing

Shingle roofing is one of the most popular roofing options because of its many benefits. One major benefit of shingle roofing is that it is relatively simple and inexpensive to install compared to other roofing materials. Additionally, shingle roofing is highly durable and resistant to damage caused by harsh weather conditions such as high winds, hail, and rain. The interlocking design of shingle roofing also helps provide additional protection against water infiltration

In addition to providing exceptional durability, shingle roofing also offers excellent fire resistance properties. Many types of shingle roofing are rated Class A for fire resistance, meaning they can withstand extreme temperatures without sustaining any significant damage. This makes them an ideal choice for homes in areas prone to wildfires or other natural disasters.

Finally, shingle roofing can be a great option for homeowners looking for a roof that will help minimize energy costs, which is accomplished through the reflective surface that helps protect against solar heat entering the home. This can result in lower cooling bills during the summer months, making it a cost-effective roof alternative over time.

The Difference Between Fiberglass & Organic Asphalt Shingles

Though seemingly uniform, asphalt shingles come in two forms: organic and fiberglass. Both types of shingles offer their own benefits, and understanding the difference between them can help you make an informed decision on what’s best for your roof installation project.

The differences between organic and fiberglass asphalt shingles include:

  • Organic asphalt shingles are made with a cellulose base, such as wood fiber or paper, that is saturated with asphalt and coated with mineral granules. This makes them heavier, thicker, and more durable than fiberglass asphalt shingles. Organic shingles tend to last longer than fiberglass shingles, typically up to 40 years, when installed and maintained correctly. They require less maintenance over time and can even be recycled after their lifespan.
  • Fiberglass asphalt shingles are made from a combination of reinforcing fibers (usually fiberglass) and roofing asphalt, making them lighter than organic shingles. They are also much thinner than their organic counterparts, making them easier to install, but they tend to have a shorter lifespan of around 25 years when installed correctly. Fiberglass roof shingles also provide good fire resistance due to the synthetic properties of the materials used in their construction.

Organic asphalt shingles might be the best choice for roof installation if you want a roof that will last longer and is more resistant to extreme weather conditions. Organic shingles also provide insulation, helping to keep homes cooler in hot weather and warmer in cold weather. Fiberglass asphalt shingles might be a good choice if the roof needs to be installed quickly. These shingles are also lighter than organic ones, so they do not weigh as much on the roof.
